Pavilion Nostalgia Park
843-918-8725; www.pavilionnostalgiapark.com
Hours: Amusement park open daily from 11am to 11pm
Cost: $3 per ride, no all day pass available
What you need: Nothing in particular - the park's at Broadway at the Beach, so whatever you wear for dinner or shopping will suffice.
Claim to fame: It's the only place on the Grand Strand where you can reminisce on the old days of the oceanfront Pavilion. You can ride some of the same rides you rode 30 years ago.
Time involved: As long as you'd like. Plan for about 30 minutes of fun.
NASCAR Speed Park
843-918-8725; www.nascarspeedpark.com
Hours: Amusement park open daily at 10am
Cost: $3 per ride, no all-day pass available
What you need: You'll be walking a good bit and it'll be hot, so comfortable clothes. Bring your driver's license as you'll need it to race Thunder Road.
Claim to fame: Thunder Road. The track requires you to have a driver's license for a reason. It's the closest you'll get to a NASCAR track without being on one. The cars are top-of-the-line, and while it's extra to drive Thunder of the Road, it's definitely worth it. Also, check out all the other tracks, the mini golf course and the rock climbing wall.
Time involved: Between a round of mini golf, a lap or two on every track, and some time waiting in line, you'll probably spend a good four to five hours at the park. You'll leave happy and ready to watch the race on Sunday afternoon.
Freestyle Music Park
843-236-7625; www.freestylemusicpark.com
Hours: Amusement park open daily 11am -10pm
Cost: All-day admission, $42.95 plus tax for adults, $32.20 plus tax for children 3-9
What you need: Comfortable clothes and shoes. It'll most likely be hot, and you'll be walking a lot. There are a few water attractions at the park as well, so it might be wise to bring a swimsuit and change of clothes just in case.
Claim to fame: The Time Machine coaster features six inversions, a 150 feet drop, and a top speed of 65 mph. The Monstars of Rock indoor "dark" ride is one-of-a-kind on the Grand Strand, and the park offers several smaller coasters that pack a smaller punch.
Soak'd, a roller coaster that allows park guests to stand below the track and squirt water onto riders, is another one-of-a-kind along the Grand Strand.
Time involved: You'll probably want to plan at least a good six hours in the park. The park is themed into four zones, and each zone features various shows and other attractions. If you spend time checking everything out, you can probably use at least 90 minutes in each area. On top of that, you'll want to grab lunch at the park, which will take an hour or so. The Time Machine is worth a few rides as well.
